Invest In Low

Production

Positioning North East Scotland as a global leader in energy excellence and pioneering technologies

The Hydrogen Campus comprises approximately 16 hectares of developable land and will support the significant low carbon hydrogen production growth opportunity across the region.

ETZ Ltd is developing the Hydrogen Campus within the Energy Transition Zone to build on Aberdeen’s decade of hydrogen experience and to further strengthen Aberdeen as a “centre of excellence for hydrogen”, with the aim of encouraging a cluster of companies specialising in hydrogen technologies to develop in the area.

Green Hydrogen Test & Demonstration Facilities

The Green Hydrogen Test & Demonstration Facilities (GHTDF) is a flagship project being developed by ETZ Ltd as a cornerstone of the Hydrogen campus.

Designed as an open-access industrial test site, the GHTDF will support the growth of the hydrogen sector by providing a dedicated environment for the testing, validation and demonstration of emerging technologies. The facility will offer on-demand hydrogen supply alongside purpose-built testing infrastructure, enabling companies to assess the performance and reliability of critical components such as electrolysers, meters, valves and associated systems.

The project has successfully completed Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and is progressing towards a Final Investment Decision (FID), targeted for 2027.

Collaboration with industry will be essential to achieving this milestone. ETZ Ltd and its partners are actively engaging with organisations interested in supporting and participating in the development of the facilities.

To deliver a comprehensive testing and certification offering, ETZ Ltd will work alongside an operating partner and TÜV SÜD, the globally recognised testing, inspection and certification organisation. Together, they will provide a complete end-to-end service, supporting technology developers from testing and validation through to certification.

Once operational, the GHTDF is expected to become one of the world's leading facilities for developing, testing and certifying the technologies that will underpin the emerging hydrogen economy.

"GHTDF will be built ‘organically’, in a phased approach, allowing our test facilities to grow over time. We believe this is necessary given that the hydrogen sector is still nascent, so we can accommodate new technology testing requirements as they are identified by industry. The first phase of GHTDF will deliver facilities to allow electrolyser performance testing. We will also be able to accommodate integration testing of various components in key hydrogen production or end-use systems.”
