Positioning North East Scotland as a global leader in energy excellence and pioneering technologies
Owing to a world-class oil and gas sector, the North East of Scotland is home to a highly skilled workforce, which is the bedrock of our local economy. It is the ideal location for industry-leading engineers, manufacturers and scientists.
The 2022 RGU Making the Switch report highlights that the region is already home to 45,000 energy jobs, almost 30% of the UK's total, with further research showing that 90% of the oil and gas workforce has medium-high skills transferability to renewable energy sectors.
ETZ Ltd’s experienced team is taking forward a range of initiatives and programmes designed to provide individuals and organisations with the skills and training necessary to secure future energy transition employment opportunities. Growing our highly skilled workforce is key to realising local community benefits, attracting more companies to the region and ensuring a managed and just transition.
Supporting the creation of quality jobs in energy transition, ensuring the region’s businesses have the skilled people they need to maximise energy transition opportunities, and making sure those employment opportunities are accessible for local people are top priorities for ETZ Ltd’s long-term delivery, and crucial for a just transition.
We are fully committed to ensuring jobs and skills opportunities are embedded throughout all aspects of our work, creating lasting job and career opportunities for our region.

Established in June 2021, the National Energy Skills Accelerator (NESA) is a collaborative initiative between world-renowned institutions Robert Gordon University, the University of Aberdeen and North East Scotland College, and is supported by key partners Skills Development Scotland and ETZ Ltd.
NESA works with businesses and training organisations to help create a more flexible and resilient workforce for the UK’s energy sector. NESA promotes and delivers the skills development programmes required to ensure business has ready access to the workforce needed to accelerate the long-term drive towards meeting net zero targets.
Inspiring and supporting young people to develop the skills for rewarding, sustainable energy careers starts in school. ETZ Ltd understands the importance of supporting and engaging the next generation in achieving a just transition. To support our local primary and secondary schools, a pilot Skills Energiser Fund was launched in October 2024. Future rounds will be announced via social media and communicated directly to the schools involved.
