Positioning North East Scotland as a global leader in energy excellence and pioneering technologies

The Heart of Europe’s Offshore Wind Revolution

Scotland is one of the world’s largest markets for offshore wind, with a pipeline of 42GW consented, under construction or planned through leasing rounds with 3GW currently operational. Projects off the coast of North East Scotland cover 75% (34.5GW) of the total installed planned pipeline in Scotland, of 45.5GW.

With its 25 GW planned and 80MW already operational, Scotland is also at the forefront of the floating offshore wind market via the ground-breaking Hywind Scotland and Kincardine projects. North East Scotland, therefore, covers 75% of the overall 42GW Scottish pipeline.

Kincardine Floating Wind Farm

Located 10 miles off the coast of Aberdeen, looking out to the horizon from the Energy Transition Zone, is the Kincardine Offshore Wind Farm. The 50MW project consists of 5 Vestas 9.5 MW turbines – the most powerful ever floated – and 1 Vestas 2MW turbine. The Kincardine project uses steel semi-submersible floating foundations designed by Principle Power.

Kincardine is the world’s largest grid-connected floating project and will generate enough electricity to power 55,000 homes in Scotland, saving 94,000 tonnes of CO2 compared to fossil-fuelled electricity generation. The project has proved the technological and commercial readiness of floating offshore wind, and this pioneering project is well-known globally.

The Wind Campus offers market-leading and flexible industry space for your business to capitalise on these massive developments and to be amongst a community of like-minded companies who are working to accelerate the commercialisation of offshore wind solutions.
