Making ETZ EnergyWorks Work For You
Customers can access a comprehensive, tailored suite of benefits to foster entrepreneurship and innovation, matching business growth needs.
The facility design has energy efficiency at the forefront, enabling customers to meet low carbon business objectives.
ETZ EnergyWorks is founded by ETZ Ltd, bp and Scottish Enterprise, supported by the UK and Scottish Governments and delivered in partnership with National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) and the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC).
Our partners offer a unique combination of customer mentoring, guidance and business growth support from industry experts to drive innovation, manufacturing technology adoption, and value generation.
bp is an integrated energy company with a purpose to deliver energy to the world, today and tomorrow. We have one of the most diverse energy portfolios of any UK energy company, underpinned by world-class trading, science, technology and engineering capability and global partnerships.
In the UK, we continue to invest in North Sea oil and gas, while growing our bp pulse EV charging network and developing selected low carbon and renewable energy projects.
bp is strongly backing the UK’s hydrogen and CCS ambitions. Together with partners we’re developing Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT P) to provide flexible low carbon power into the UK grid, and the Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP), which would be the CO2 transportation and storage provider for the East Coast Cluster (ECC). Our H2Teesside blue hydrogen project, part of the ECC, is progressing through FEED.
A stone’s throw from the ETZ EnergyWorks facility, we are progressing the Aberdeen Hydrogen Hub jointly with Aberdeen City Council. This first green hydrogen project for the region moves into construction in 2025, aiming to be operational in 2026.
We also continue to develop offshore wind projects with our global partners, and solar developments through Lightsource bp – one of the world’s leading solar and battery storage providers.
bp is pleased to be a founding partner of ETZ EnergyWorks and a member of the facility’s operational board. This is part of our commitment to investing in local economies and supporting skills, technology and innovation for the energy transition.
We look forward to engaging with tenants as they take their solutions to the next level of readiness. Through bp’s representative on the ETZ EnergyWorks team, tenants can showcase their ideas and gain access to bp’s deep network of local and global experts across our diverse business areas, who can provide a range of commercial and technical insights to help scale their solutions for success.
Scottish Enterprise (SE), alongside our fellow ETZ EnergyWorks partners, will collectively form a support system around tenant companies developing innovative energy transition solutions. We will engage with tenants to understand their ambitions to grow through innovation, attracting investment and internationalisation.
As stated in Our Focus On Economic Transformation, launched in January 2024, we are committed to creating an internationally competitive renewable energy industry in Scotland, scaling the impact of our innovation strengths in high growth industries of the future, and driving capital investment to deliver a step-change in productivity. You can read more on our website here. We will work collaboratively to ensure SE’s services are prioritised for businesses with this transformational potential regardless of what stage they are at in their growth journey. We can also help companies access appropriate assistance and expertise from our partners.
SE delivers a range of dynamic support services tailored to a business’s specific needs on a case-by-case basis. For example, we can help transformational startups and spinouts with aligned growth ambitions to make important connections within a growing ecosystem of entrepreneurs, accelerators and innovation hubs across Scotland. We can also offer access to programmes that enable strong and effective leadership and management practices, and an ability to scale at pace. In addition, we can help explore options for funding business growth and to accelerate individual projects.
Through SE support, businesses can also access specialist support and advice in areas such as product and service development, intellectual property, workplace innovation, digital advancements, sustainability, manufacturing efficiency and productivity, and international trade. Companies based at ETZ EnergyWorks stand to benefit from the knowledge, connections and networks of our specialists in Offshore Wind, Clean Heat, Hydrogen, Sustainable Aviation and Alternative Fuels, Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage and Tidal Stream Energy.
Launching its first physical presence in the Northeast of Scotland, the team from the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS) will offer a wide range of advanced manufacturing support to local businesses.
Within a dedicated advanced manufacturing space in ETZ EnergyWorks, the team will work with local industry to support productivity, competitiveness and growth, for example through rapid prototyping and commercialising new technologies.
NMIS is operated by the University of Strathclyde and part of the High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult.
NMIS brings access to specialist equipment, expertise and experience in all areas of advanced manufacturing, across the whole product lifecycle, underpinned by expertise in skills, data science and the manufacturing supply chain.
NMIS are looking forward to working closely with other partners, including BP, NZTC and Scottish Enterprise to ensure ETZ EnergyWorks is a success.
The Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) is a not-for-profit organisation driving technology innovation to accelerate the energy transition to net zero. By collaborating with industry, government and academia, NZTC facilitates the development and deployment of transformative technologies. It also provides a range of services to help organisations strengthen their decarbonisation strategies. Through its TechX Clean Energy Accelerator, NZTC has supported nearly 70 technology start-ups by providing funding, mentorship and access to its extensive industry network.
NZTC is delighted to be a delivery partner in ETZ EnergyWorks and fully supports its vision. NZTC will leverage the knowledge and network from its existing TechX Accelerator programme to support EnergyWorks’ tenants with commercialisation, technology development and funding, accelerating their route to market. The centre’s involvement will also extend to creating visibility, inviting companies at EnergyWorks to attend industry showcases and networking events, including NZTC’s flagship TechX Demo Day. This will provide start-ups with invaluable opportunities to meet industry leaders, potential customers and investors.
NZTC will work closely with the other partners bp, Scottish Enterprise and NMIS to ensure start-ups based at the scale-up hub will receive holistic support. This collective effort aims to enhance the growth of clean energy innovators, fostering a vibrant ecosystem within the region and leveraging the wide-ranging capabilities of each of the partners.
