ETZ Ltd Seeks New Board Members

ETZ Ltd is a not-for-profit, private sector-led company tasked with spearheading the North East of Scotland’s ambition to become a globally recognised energy cluster focussed on the delivery of Net Zero. Our clear focus is on harnessing the region’s critical mass of energy companies and its skills, innovation, infrastructure and financial capital to accelerate energy transition and remain at the vanguard of developing new green energies.

Supported by significant levels of funding from the private sector and both the Scottish and UK Governments, ETZ Ltd adopts a collaborative approach to fully realise this ambition. It is positioned as a catalyst and a trusted partner of individuals and organisations to secure a sustainable future for the region and the people who live and work here.

Throughout the first year in operation, ETZ ltd engaged with over 300 organisations across both the private and public sectors, supported the delivery of 12 programmes benefitting almost 500 individuals. The key priority of the company’s activity is the development of a unique Energy Transition Zone adjacent to the new £400 million Aberdeen South Harbour. This is the focal point of the cluster, attracting new investment and high-value employment opportunities. Significant progress on the Zone has been made already with the creation of the world’s first floating wind innovation centre within the Altens Industrial Estate and confirmation of new private sector tenants.

The Scottish Government recently awarded over £14 million to ETZ Ltd through the North East & Moray Just Transition Fund to support the delivery of an Advanced Manufacturing Skills Hub and Supply Chain Pathway & Challenge Fund. These projects seek to address key challenges – expanding the skillset of our region’s people and capacity of the supply chain – in order to accelerate energy transition activities.

ETZ Ltd is seeking to recruit Board Members who can support the company’s role as a regional catalyst and offer strategic advice on the next phases of development of the Zone. This represents a unique and exciting opportunity to support our Board, whose wealth of experience is proving invaluable as the organisation navigates the next crucial steps in its delivery.

Applications are invited from interested individuals who are senior decision-makers in their field and who can demonstrate a range of skills, attributes and experience that will contribute to the effective functioning of the Board. We are seeking applications from individuals, with knowledge and applied experience in energy transition, in the following areas:-

  • Applicants with a good knowledge of the regulatory framework, fiscal and funding environment within which the UK energy industry operates.
  • Applicants with a commitment to the North East of Scotland and with strong networks across Scotland and the UK, both in business and the wider political environment.
  • Applicants who have extensive experience working at a leadership level within the energy supply chain and can provide informed guidance on the sector’s requirements to accelerate transition, particularly for SME’s.

The Board formally meets 6 times per year, and attendance can be in person or virtually. There may be a requirement for occasional meetings out with the Board cycle.

All appointments will be made after a process of selection carried out by an appointing panel. The Board is committed to equality of opportunity, encouraging a diverse range of applicants, and to the principle of appointments on the basis of merit, applying openness and transparency of the process.

The deadline for applications is 2 December 2022. Please send a CV and short cover letter/e-mail to David Beattie David.Beattie@etzltd.com demonstrating your interest and relevant experience for this Board position.
